Arrival
[ It doesn't take long for Akira to register what kind of place he's been tossed to. He hasn't even really gotten settled into the Barge yet, and now this new ship is actually worse. Sure, the sentencing on the sheet is a lot more straightforward than what getting off the Barge entails, but what is that worth surrounded by bars and chains and with every last dreg of power locked down?
Sentencing. Akira smiles but it's more like baring his teeth, sharp with fury. ]
What self-righteous bullshit.
Cell Block Tango - closed to Akechi
[ Akira is incredibly offended but not actually surprised by the prisoner rooms. Apparently his is defaulted to the cell unless whoever his fucking Advocate is changes it. Plus it's attached to their room. The memories are stifling; the cot, the bars. The only saving grace is there's no blue light, no executioner's tools right outside.
He slams the side of his fist against the connecting door. It's aggressive as hell, but still technically knocking. ]
Local teen hates everything
[ He hates this place! A lot! So Akira starts making a problem of himself in pretty short order. Graffiti, bags or ropes with spots frayed to weakness, things broken where they won't cause problems for other Prisoners. Advocates are fair game there, though. Can this get him in trouble?
Probably. But like the Disney movie said, "You're only in trouble if you get caught". A lot of his stealth tricks need powers, but not all of them. Akira's a past master of looking like he's never done anything wrong in his life, for one thing.
And he's looking for whoever else here might be interested in making the Establishment's day a little more terrible. ]

[The growl of a question is the initial response, and then the door flies open, revealing an incredibly judgmental glare that only hardens as he stares Akira down.]
... Really, Kurusu? What the fuck was that for?
no subject
[ There's such an incredible tangle of different emotions in that one word. The idea that Akechi could be somewhere had sprouted early, but Akechi being his Advocate is just-
He is somehow relieved, excited, and yet pissed off and immensely offended at the same time. He was! A former assassin! What the fuck! ]
Seriously? Talk about the letter of the law over the spirit.
no subject
[He's a smart guy, and yet he looks to very genuinely have no idea what Akira's words mean.]
In any case, I feel like I'm the one who should be annoyed. Where did you even find time for all of that? Seriously...
[He lightly pinches the bridge of his nose.]
no subject
The idea feels weird. So does Akechi's other question. Akira rubs a hand over his face before tugging at his hair. ]
Good time management? And my homeroom teacher let me make Metaverse tools in class. But seriously, why are you allowed to be an Advocate when you killed people? Just because you never got caught?
no subject
The punchline that's clearly never coming.]
Is that your idea of a joke, these days, Kurusu? Or is it that you believe trying to drag my name through the mud will somehow help?
[Frankly, he's very genuinely hurt. Something that only shows in his eyes before he closes them long enough to let out a tense breath.]
Whatever it is, I suggest you stop now. [Quietly:] Before you dig your new hole even deeper, and find yourself without a single hand to pull you back up.
no subject
Not that Akira wasn't guilty of trying to do the same, even if he'd sucked at it.
He does his best to hide the sinking feeling of dread, but right now his best is borderline. ]
You- Akechi, do you...remember the Phantom Thieves?
[ Don't panic. Don't panic. Don't dwell on finding Akechi alive only for everything to be wrong, either. That way lies madness. ]
no subject
Perhaps I should save you a bit of time and tell you what I do remember happening just before I came here...
Not long after you permanently moved in, the end of the school year came, some graduated, some made plans for the next school year. The Phantom Thieves never existed, I never died, and you never committed a crime beyond the one that landed you in Sojiro's attic. A perfect life, yes? At least I hope you think so.
Given it's one you chose. You couldn't simply let me go... So, in the end, you accepted a false reality where everyone lives happily ever after.
no subject
[ That's something easy to push back against, so he does while he tries to make sense of the rest. Except there is no sense to it.
Aside, maybe, from difficulty in letting Akechi go. It was hard to argue with that when he'd been looking for him on the Barge. ]
I don't- That isn't me you're talking about, I didn't even make it to the end of the school year. I died in December and wound up on another ship just before this entire shitshow.
no subject
Maybe he's been here far too long. He hates that he just reminded himself of that bitch of a "Judge".]
Alright. So you're similar to me. The last person I met from that world remembered me going on a rampage and... trying to murder you and our-... your friends, as they emphasized repeatedly. None of that changes our memories - in many ways, however, it makes it that much harder to swallow.
[With a tense breath, he looks away, his expression finally falling completely.]
I never wanted to see your face in this setting. Knowing that at least you were untouched by her - it gave me the resolve to keep going. To continue making a difference, where and how I could.
no subject
[It's a quiet mutter, tired and almost sullen. A little pained.
Akira scrubs his hands over his face and tugs at his bangs as he listens to the rest.]
We might have the same face, but it sounds like the Akira you knew is still untouched by her, at least. ...he doesn't sound like he'd be much use here, anyway. Nobody needs to fight back, to make a difference in that kind of fairy tale.
I'll fight with you, and maybe he'll never have to.
no subject
Well... in my original reality, as I knew it... we were. All of us. So, even though it's fake - much like... my very existence, I did experience it. Friends. Happiness... however fabricated it was. We played chess together, even went to the same school, eventually.
Fairy tale, it may have been... But I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. After learning the harsh realities, it became... motivation. Knowing both sides... It gave me perspective, for quite some time.
[Now he's looking off to the side.]
It isn't strictly the face, per se. After all, a face worn by you automatically becomes far more than meets the eye. [He reaches out, lightly poking him in the chest.] Because you'll always be far more than outward appearances, no matter which reality you come here from. Despite frustrations I may have towards you, the fact remains that you hold more than just physical similarities.
[He gives him a much wider, genuine smile. One hand is extended to Akira as he says the next part.]
Let's work together then.
Local adult hates things too!
He sidles up to the kid in the yard, though, and murmurs:]
Making a little chaos, kid?
no subject
[ Akira is just as quiet but that doesn't take away from the vicious pleasure in his tone. ]
no subject
Oh, yes it is. You're a fast learner.
no subject
[ Akira gives a wry half-smile, glancing at some of the Prisoners that have caught the nastier punishments. ]

[ He sounds disappointed at the last bit. He is, in fact, disappointed about it. Akira wanted to see that bastard crash and burn. ]
no subject
[For most things, anyway.]
no subject
[ Akira makes a face, carefully not thinking too much on what had been interfering and how that had gone. ]
no subject
[That's all things he stayed well out of. It's far beyond his pay grade.]
no subject
[ This does not look like the face of someone who's joking. ]

[ It's probably a weird cognition thing but magic is a more accessible concept. ]
no subject
[Though the only magic he's ever seen is what the enemy uses to try to win battles, so he's probably biased.]
no subject
[ Trouble is a kind and understated word for it, but there are things he tries very hard not to think about from right before he died. ]

I might be a little rusty. Akira Kurusu, by the way.

[He offers the other a small, lop-sided smile, single eye moving around in a quick glance before he's looking down at the pieces. Akira has White.]
And so we can talk, if you don't mind?
no subject
I'm a better listener, but I don't mind talking, too.
guess who doesn't know jack all about chess, it is me.
I've taken notice of things, especially the state of things and the people forced to deal with it. I'm keen on making a change, I just need to know if there are others who are interested in joining me.
[He flicks his one eye up and moves a piece into play.]
/laughing/ Fair enough! I haven't played in ages.
>Fuck the police.
>It's a pretty bad system.
>When do we start?
He moves another piece, setting it down with a firm click.]
When do we start? I'm not a big fan of beating people for breaking the law.

Local teen hates second local teen
And there's a matching glow around the orb on the end of a staff being held in the gloved hands of a young-looking figure with a golden mask like a barn owl - it's impossible to tell quite where he's looking, but when the red glow vanishes from both staff and wand it turns to look pointedly at Akira, and there's a distinct air that he's thoroughly unimpressed.]
no subject
So what now? Want to march me before the Court and find out what bits to cut off? That's how this torture porn cruise operates, isn't it?
[ He knows there are other punishments. But he's got points to make, and Views on all this. ]
no subject
...if you see anything else with such obvious damage, report it to an Advocate. Failure to prevent completely avoidable injuries could carry serious repercussions.
no subject
The words get far more reaction. Gray eyes widen briefly behind his glasses. Then the sharpest edges of disdain ease out of his expression and a tiny hint of a smirk curls his lips.
He offers a small nod, something almost like approval. Then his expression easily melts into the appearance of a subdued, normal teen.]
Right, I'll keep it in mind. It would be terrible if anyone got hurt on the ship.
